Asssignment 1: Descriptive Analytics

1.       Find or create a dataset on any topic of your interest. It must have at least 50 rows (observations) and at least 5 columns (variables). At least 3 of the variables must be numeric (like Height, Weight) and at least 2 variables that are categorical (like Gender).

 

2.       Create the following tables/charts in Excel or other software of your choice (you can download trial versions of Minitab, XLStat, or others).

a.       Histogram for one of the numeric variables

b.      Box and Whisker Plot for one of the numeric variables.

c.       A pivot table showing one of the numeric variables segmented by the two categorical variables (crosstabulation).

 

3.       Compute the following descriptive statistics for each variable:

a.       Minimum

b.      Maximum

c.       Mean

d.      Median

e.      Standard Deviation

 

4.       Write a report in Word that introduces the data, and shows all your analyses above with your interpretations. Introduce each chart or graph, Copy and paste it from Excel, and then write a brief explanation of what it tells you about the data. Your report should stand alone – a reader should be able to see and understand what you did without opening your Excel file.

 

5.       Upload both the Report in Word and your Excel file to iCollege under Assignment 1.
