What
is Hapkido?
Hapkido is a Korean art of self-defense
suitable
for all ages and abilities. It
is an
easy-to-learn, complete martial art that includes
throws, joint manipulations, and pressure point
techniques in addition to kicks and punches.
Hapkido skills are designed to subdue an opponent
without causing serious injuries.
Hapkido emphasizes the building of ‘Ki’
through the coordination of mind and body. The
words that form Hapkido translate approximately as
follows:
· Hap – coordination
· Ki – inner power, life force
· Do – disciplined life
‘Ki’ is the infinite energy and potential that
exists within each of us, which can be developed
through the coordination of mind and body. This
inner power keeps the mind and body peaceful,
soft, healthy and confident
