What is Hapkido?
Hapkido is a Korean art of self-defense
suitable for all ages and abilities. It is an easy-to-learn, complete martial
art that includes throws, joint manipulations, and pressure point techniques
in addition to kicks and punches. Hapkido skills
are designed to subdue an opponent without causing serious injuries.
Hapkido emphasizes the building of ‘Ki’ through the
coordination of mind and body. The words that form Hapkido
translate approximately as follows:
Hap – coordination
Ki – energy, inner power, life force
Do – disciplined life
‘Ki’ (“Qi” or “Chi”) is the energy that flows through each
of us, and its free expression can be developed through the coordination of
mind and body through disciplined practice. This keeps us peaceful, soft,
healthy and confident.
